Life Assessment of Hot Section Gas Turbine Components
Published in Hardcover by Institute of Materials (07 October, 2000)
Authors: R. Townsend, M. Winstone, M. Henderson, J. R. Nicholls, A. Partridge, B. Nath, M. Wood, and R. Viswanathan
Average review score:

Excellent collection of papers
There is hardly anything out in the public domain on the subject of gas turbine life prediction, so this volume is a welcome addition to the subject ! Many of the authors are well known, and if you're a graduate student you'll probably save some $$ by ordering their papers directly from your library. If you work in the gas turbine life prediction field, then you probably know most of the stuff contained here .. still, its well worth the expense report. Related books include "Damage Mechanisms and Life Assessment of High Temperature Components" by R. Vishwanathan. The problem with both of these books is that they still treat gas turbine life assessment as a deterministic problem when its really a stochastic problem that needs to be handled using probabilistic design algorithms.

Making Change : Three Educators Join the Battle for Better Schools
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (February, 1998)
Author: Holly Holland
Average review score:

Important book about the human side of large-scale change
Kentucky schools have been under a national microscope since the state's passage of the 1990 Kentucky Education Reform Act -- thought at the time to be the nation's most ambitious school reform law ever. Holly Holland's decision to examine the impact of reform through the eyes of three small-town educators -- a superintendent, a principal, and a teacher -- is inspired. A well-written, important book about the human impact of large-scale reform efforts.

The Man in the Basement
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (August, 2001)
Author: Scott Henderson
Average review score:

Put this on your reading list!
The Man in the Basement was a very enjoyable, fast-paced read. The reader can expect to delve
into the haunting dreams of a boy which eerily seem linked to the strange circumstances of his birth.
As the boy's dreams intensify, so does the story. Henderson takes the reader through a barrage of events
including chillng hypnotic sessions and the search for explanations both through conventional and non-traditional
means.

Beyond the pure story, this book was personally satisfying because I found myself often questioning my own
traditional thought patterns and belief system. This book will allow you to consider that your own world is
not always as predictable as it may seem.

I will look forward to Henderson's next book which is expected to involve the human genome project.

Be careful what you wish for........
How often do we make wishes and fail to recognize what we really want? Scott knows from the minute he sees Jennifer, and works hard at following God's will instead of his own when it comes to the desires of his heart. Dee Henderson is a excellent author and each of her stories puts you right there with what her characters are going through. She captures the realness of life and translates that to words that make it difficult to put her books down! Read all her stuff, you won't be disapointed!

Math Trek : Adventures in the Math Zone
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (November, 1999)
Authors: Ivars Peterson and Nancy Henderson
Average review score:

Math Fun
Our family has really enjoyed this book. We homeschool our two children, ages 10 and 13, and have been reading this book to them chapter by chapter. The narrative appealed to our precocious but math-phobic ten-year-old, so that she wasn't even aware she was doing math. The topics and exercises appealed to our math nerd thirteen-year-old, who has taken on the task of disproving the four-color map proof. The exercises in the book are well-explained, and require only simple materials such as paper, pencil and dice. I provided the children with just a bit of background information. For example, we hadn't done much work in probability, and needed a little background before we played with weird dice. However, most topics (fractals, chaos theory, topology, etc.,)were so well explained, no further information was necessary. I recommend this book for all those who wish to interest their children in mathematics beyond the humdrum rote of math facts.

Modern Mathematicians (Global Profiles)
Published in Hardcover by Facts on File, Inc. (December, 1995)
Author: Harry Henderson
Average review score:

Faces of Mathematics
This book is a brief biography of the men and women that influenced mathematics in the past two centuries. The book is divided into sections devoted to a particular mathematician.

Modern Mathematicians is an inspirational read for amateur mathematicians and students. It fills a gap in the mathematics curriculum. Few people are aware of famous mathematicians or their endeavors.

Henderson is applauded for writing this book.

Networking Windows NT 4 0
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (15 January, 1997)
Authors: John D. Ruley, David Methvin, Tom Henderson, and Martin Heller
Average review score:

Good for potential NT server users, outdated otherwise
If, like me, you're considering upgrading from a small peer-to-peer Windows 95/98 network to a proper NT server network and are wondering what NT is all about, this is a great introduction. Better than most introductory books, it clearly explains the advantages and limitations of moving up to NT and the basics of how file server and client/server operations work. However, if you're looking for up-to-the-minute NT information, you'd be better to look elsewhere. Despite the "totally revised and updated" claims, this book is clearly near the end of it's currency. The references to 9600 speed modems and PC's with 16 MB RAM let you know the revisions were not all that complete. But if you're mystified by what NT can do and want an introduction, this book will prepare you for more current/technical books.

Newborn (Picture Books)
Published in School & Library Binding by Dial Books for Young Readers (May, 1999)
Authors: Kathy Henderson, Caroline Binch, and Phyllis Fogelman
Average review score:

Great book!
My Mother purchased this for me after the birth of my son. I love to read it to him. It's very lyrical with wonderful pictures. A good reminder for me, too. Brings back the memories of when he was first born. Would be a great book to read to a child who is getting ready for a new sibling. Shows the world through the babies eyes.
